Favorite Websites

Here is a list of websites that I found helpful during my planning:

www.weddingbee.com – Really cute site that has a discussion board

www.liweddings.com – A Long-Island NY-based site with a TON of ideas

www.brides.com – A site which tends to have very original ideas

www.theknot.com – This one may be obvious to many, but it’s a great resource

www.foreverandalways.com – Favor and gift ideas

www.etsy.com – I found my invitations here. It’s not a bridal website; it sells all things handmade and is a great resource for gifts, invitations, or anything unique. They also have a wedding website: www.etsy.com/weddings.

http://www.myfairytaleaffairs.com - I got my scroll seating chart here. They also do invitations.

www.weddingwire.com – Good site for choosing music

www.originalrunners.com – Unique runners for the ceremony

www.retailmenot.com – Coupon site to find bargains

As a final note when it comes to your vendors, remember Gina’s advice:

“Everyone will be nice to you until they have your money. They will answer all your questions and make time to meet with you. Then you pay them and suddenly they aren’t as available and certainly not as accommodating. Always remember you are PAYING them, they are not doing you any favors here. Ask every single question you want to ask and don’t let anyone make you feel bad about it. It’s their job to help you. Don’t let anyone intimidate you.”

Well said! I certainly had my own eye-opening experiences with some vendors. Certain things fell by the wayside, and I felt the consequences. Remember, this is your one and only big day, but to your vendors, this is also a business. And like any business, the focus is often on new customers and growing profits.

Do your best to choose the greatest vendors you can for your budget, and when you have booked them for your date and have everything in place, don’t stress anymore. Pictures and video are priceless, and will live on for years to come, which is why we shell out a pretty penny for them (and rightfully so). The great vendors do exceptional work.

But never lose yourself in stress over trying to get everything perfect, or pressure yourself that this is your one shot to do so. You will never get to recreate your wedding day, but instead of letting this fact stress you out, use it to enjoy all of those beautiful pictures you take and just relax and have fun. The morning of your wedding, when you open your eyes, realize that this is it – you worked your ass off, and now it’s here. Don’t get lost in trying to control things to the point that you aren’t living in the moment. What will be, will be, so allow the day to unfold and enjoy every waking minute of it.
